With Covid-19 playing havoc with the world, the travel industry is in a constant state of change. Cities lock down, borders close and hotels batten down their hatches, but one thing that prevails the world over is people’s ability to dream – to look beyond the here and now to a time when the plates stop spinning.

While we wait for that moment, the best thing we can do is to travel without travelling, using magazines, the internet, and our imaginations to incite both wonderment and wanderlust. The world is a big, beautiful place and there will come a time when it come become our oyster once more.

For now, let’s start a new wish list and dream about where you’d like to go next. Perhaps you’ll stay closer to home and help support local hotels and businesses, in which case this issue’s Spirit of Arabia ‘staycation special’ will help you decide where to stay. Or perhaps you’ll feel the need to spread your wings further, and so from Marrakech to the Amazon and to Portugal, there is still much to explore.
