PM highlights India's strategic autonomy, says it is ready to play the role of a 'steady lighthouse' guiding the world through geopolitical and economic turbulence
Prime Minister Modi on Monday said India is ready to play the role of a steady lighthouse guiding the world through turbulent global waters, asserting that the country's strength, stability, and strategic autonomy have made it a beacon of confidence amid uncertainty.
Addressing the Global Maritime CEO Forum during India Maritime Week 2025 at the NESCO auditorium in Mumbai, Modi emphasised that India’s reliability, democratic values, and inclusive growth place it at the heart of global realignments. "When the global seas are rough, the world looks for a steady lighthouse. India is well poised to play that role with strength and stability," he said.
Amid geopolitical tensions, trade disruptions, and shifting supply chains, Modi said India stands as a symbol of peace, independence, and inclusive progress. Referring to the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, he said the project would redefine global trade routes, promote clean energy, and foster smarter logistics.
The event was attended by Maharashtra Governor Acharya Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Union Ministers Sarbananda Sonowal, Shantanu Thakur, and Kirti Vardhan Singh, besides international maritime leaders. Modi welcomed participants from over 85 countries, noting how the conclave, which began in 2016, has grown into a truly global summit.
