RESEARCH SNAPSHOT: The Link Between Worker Ownership and Workplace Safety

WHAT DOES EMPLOYEE OWNERSHIP IN A COMPANY HAVE TO DO WITH workplace safety? A lot, according to a new study published in the journal Management Science.

In studying a sample of over 40,000 incidents of workplace injury, the researchers found a strong causal link between an increase in employee ownership through stock options granted to rank-and-file workers and a decrease in rates of work-related injury.
