A shock diagnosis has brought the exes closer than ever

It's near impossible to find a pair of friendlier exes than Demi Moore and Bruce Willis - Hollywood's poster couple of the 1990s.

And as the actor stunned the world last week by revealing he's retiring after being diagnosed with a brain condition called aphasia, his ex-wife declared she would be by his side every step of the way.

In a touching statement, Demi, 59, announced that "our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues... impacting his cognitive abilities. This is a really challenging time for our family and we are so appreciative of your continued love, compassion and support. We are moving through this as a strong family unit.”

In the statement, also signed by Bruce's current wife Emma Heming and his daughters Rumer, Scout, Tallulah, Mabel and Evelyn, Demi writes, “As Bruce always says, 'Live it up and together we plan to do just that.”

Aphasia affects a person's ability to read, write and speak, and is usually the result of a stroke or brain injury, though the family hasn't confirmed what led to Bruce's diagnosis.
