Exiles boss eyes derby win to help boost spirits

NEWPORT County manager David Hughes is targeting a win over old rivals Cardiff City in the EFL Trophy tonight to “lift the spirits” of his players and the club's supporters.
County sank to the bottom of League Two with a 1-0 home defeat by Swindon Town on Saturday, their 10th loss in the last 11 games.
And while the weekend league trip to Accrington Stanley is the main focus, Hughes knows that a win over the Bluebirds would provide some much-needed positivity for him, his players and the fans.
“The league is the priority, 100 per cent,” said the Exiles boss.
“But whatever game we play, we want to win. We want to pick the strongest team possible, which is what we try to do every week.
“It’s important for the supporters and it's important for us. Tuesday and Saturday are two really important games.
