NEWPORT and St Fagans are set for a final-day shootout with the South Wales Premier Cricket League crown on the line.

They go into this weekend’s head-to-head with Newport holding a slender one-point lead over the reigning champions at the top of the table.

Whoever comes out on top in the clash in Newport will be crowned champions.

Newport stayed top of the pile with a 48-run victory at Pontarddulais.

In a low-scoring encounter, the visitors were all out for 163. Opener Michael Clayden top-scored with 40, while Oliver Rogers took 3-41 for Bont.

But the Newport bowlers then took command as Bont slumped from 40-2 to 48-7. Skipper Mathew Fisher led the home rearguard with a fighting 69, but the hosts were all out for 115 as Salman Saeed ended with figures of 4-48.

Meanwhile, Steven Reingold scored a glorious century as St Fagans kept the pressure on with an eight-wicket success at home to Usk.

The visitors had set a challenging total of 232 after deciding to bat first. Harawal Ahmed Wassam top-scored with 86 and Ollie Rayner added 55.

But the target was well within St Fagans’ compass as they clinched victory with 12 overs in hand. Reingold took just 98 deliveries to score an unbeaten 114 ~ he cracked 15 boundaries and two sixes along the way - with the inform Jeremy Lawlor adding a rapid 75 not out.

Ynystawe will finish in the bottom two after they went down by 84 runs at Cardiff.

Tegid Phillips scored 59 and Henry Hurle 53 as the capital club made 218-9. Aditya Singh took 4-26.
