GWEN Crabb hopes 'honest conversations' between the Welsh squad can spark an upturn in fortunes as they bid to bounce back against Canada this weekend.

Wales' Women's Rugby World Cup campaign got off to the worst possible start as Scotland ran out 38-8 victors in Salford in what was billed as a de facto quarterfinal decider in Pool B.

Sean Lynn's side now have a mountain to climb if they are to progress to the knockout stages, starting with a clash against the side ranked second in the world on Saturday.

And Crabb, who started in the second row against Scotland and was sin-binned in the 53rd minute, is backing her wounded side to respond positively to their early setback.

"We went into the game very confident in our prep, very confident in our ability to go out there and perform and unfortunately we didn't," she said.
