Dominant win for seconds at Heaton Mersey
Macclesfield Express
|July 02, 2025
Macc skipper Adam Longshaw lost the toss and was asked to field first.
The decision seemed odd as the match began under heavy cloud with a better forecast later, but Heaton Mersey took the risk having often been successful bowling second this season.
Macc thought they had an early breakthrough as Khan spooned a catch to Longshaw off Ben Curwen with the score on 12 only for it to be called a no-ball.
Soon after though the same batsman again hit a ball off Curwen high in the air and it was marvelously caught one-handed by Jimi Tibbits running backwards at mid-on to make it 18-1.
This became a double breakthrough the first ball of the next over as Barney Cutbill found the edge of Isaacs’ bat and the catch was taken by keeper George Montaldo.
Heaton Mersey tried to regroup but with the score only up to 25-2, Curwen struck twice in the ninth over, first pinning Bashir lbw with a yorker-length ball then having Maqsood easily caught at square leg by Aryaman Sharma. After three more overs, with only a single run added, Curwen took his fourth wicket as Isaac was caught behind by keeper Montaldo.
Heaton Mersey’s Cheema tried to hit his way out of the pressure put on the batting side and he hit two fours before edging to gully where Ben Farmer took a good low catch. The wicket was Curwen's fifth and it made the score a very rocky 36-6.
