Supreme Court ready to decide if Sturgeon's proposals are legal

A DATE has been set for when judges will consider Nicola Sturgeon's bid to hold a second referendum on Scottish independence.

The Supreme Court in London will hear arguments from lawyers representing both the UK and Scottish Governments on October 11 and 12.

The judges will decide whether Holyrood has the legal powers to call an IndyRef2 without the prior approval of the UK Government.

Dorothy Bain, the Lord Advocate, formally referred the prospective referendum Bill to the court last month.

The First Minister last month told MSPs that she intended to hold another vote on independence on October 19 next year but only if such a move is declared legal.
