Saints hero Fitzy slams Aberdeen fans moaning about gaffer swoop and insists Dons are LUCKY to get legend like Robbo
TONY FITZPATRICK believes some Aberdeen fans are off their heads to question the appointment of the "legend" that is Stephen Robinson.
The former St Mirren hero admitted he is gutted his club’s Premier Sports Cup-winning boss is quitting Paisley for Pittodrie.
The move hasn't gone down well universally with the Red Army, with many turning their noses up at the move.
But Fitzpatrick isn’t having any of that. He reckons they're LUCKY to have him because Saints are as big as the Dons.
He said: “Results turn fans around. I'm not being cheeky but how can Aberdeen fans turn around and say they are not happy with this appointment?
“Look at what the guy has done. He is a top manager. There is no doubt about that.
“I am also in no doubt he'll be an international manager in the future, such is his standing in the game. He is brilliant on the training pitch, he motivates players and gels teams.
“I would say to Aberdeen fans that you are so lucky to get a manager like Stephen.”
In his time in Paisley, Robinson led St Mirren to three top-six finishes, back into Europe and lifted the Premier Sports Cup this season after beating Celtic in the final.
It’s in part because of this Fitzpatrick doesn't think that Aberdeen is a step up for the Northern Irishman.
He said: “I still think St Mirren is as big as Aberdeen. That is my view and always has been my view.
