1 DHARAMSHALA INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

When filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee got a standing ovation for his film Tees at Dharamshala International Film Festival in McLeodganj, it was an acknowledgement of not just his craft but also of the spirit of film enthusiasts willing to travel to watch this masterpiece that was shelved by an OTT channel. It was a nod to how some independent film platforms support filmmakers who struggle to be accepted, particularly in the face of increasing censorship issues. This year's lineup has yet to be announced by the festival. However, based on past experiences, the festival is expected to continue being bold and brave in its choices.

2 CAIRO INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL

Though the full lineup is still awaited, the 46th edition of Cairo International Film Festival (CIFF) will close with The Voice of Hind Rajab a docudrama about a 6-year-old girl shot by Israeli forces that also won a Grand Jury Prize at Venice Film Festival. The film, directed by Kaouther Ben Hania, blends actual recordings and scripted performances. The oldest and the only internationally accredited film festival in the Arab world, Africa, and the Middle East, this year, too, it is showcasing a selection of restored Egyptian films.
