With progressive restoration of flight connectivity from India, Tourism Authority of Thailand is counting on a rapid rebound to the pre-pandemic number of the Indian visitors. Deputy Governor of Tourism Authority of Thailand Tanes Petsuwan says he expects Indian visitor numbers to reach the 1.9 million mark by 2023 and continue to grow.
How important is India as a source market for Thailand in 2022?
In the year of 2019 Indian market's performance was quite outstanding with about 1.9 million visitors, which was very good number at that time. Over the past two years, due to Covid-19 pandemic the number had sharply dropped, I think by about 89 pc because nobody could make any trip. But after that we have seen a great rebound in the Indian market to Thailand. So, when Thailand opened for foreign visitors about six months ago, since then over 330,000 Indians have already visited Thailand. This number reflects an outstanding market performance. So, we have now put India as a top priority market in our drive for the resumption of Thai tourism industry.
