ONNELEY moved out of the NSSCL Division Three drop zone with victory over Bignall End seconds, which also confirmed their rivals' relegation.

The writing had been on the wall for sometime for Bignall End, but they did put in a spirited performance at the weekend.

An opening partnership of 139 between Thomas Perkin and Kieran Peake set some solid foundations for the rest of the innings. Perkin hit 18 fours and one six in his 82, with Peake contributing 49.

However, the visitors couldn’t build on that and were eventually bowled out for 190.

Adam Edwards (4-28) and Jake Short (3-39) did the bulk of the damage for Onneley, with Mohammed Khalid striking twice.

In reply, Onneley fell to 20-2, but a third-wicket alliance of 147 between Jibu Abraham and Tom Salt turned the game in the home side’s favour.

Abraham struck 11 fours in a fine 75, with Salt stroking 12 boundaries in an unbeaten 67 to complete a seven-wicket triumph. Thomas Atkinson took 3-34.

Onneley are now a point clear of trouble and have been replaced in the bottom two places by Longton 2nd XI, who lost at home to their Leek counterparts.
