Telco giant PLDT Inc. has stepped up its efforts with communities and the police in taking down criminals who steal cable lines, leading to almost 1,000 arrests in 2024.

- ELIJAH FELICE ROSALES

In an effort to minimize service disruption in the network, PLDT is expanding its monitor against cable thieves by teaming up with the Philippine National Police (PNP), barangay authorities and local communities.

PLDT, on its own, is reporting cases of cable theft to the PNP, and its efforts have resulted in the arrest of 2,487 suspects since 2022, including nearly 1,000 in 2024.

PLDT chief operating officer and network head Menardo Jimenez Jr. said the telco is committed to preventing cable theft in its network. He underscored the urgency of preventing such crimes to ensure the reliability of connectivity services.
