New police base aims to tackle anti-social crimes

NEW base which aims to help tackle antisocial behaviour and improve safety has opened in North Tyneside.

The base is run by Northumbria Police and the community protection team at North Tyneside Council.

It has opened at North Shields Transport Hub and will be a drop-in point for members of the public to speak directly with police officers and community protection staff. The base will enable the force and the protection team to have a visible presence on site and faster response to incidents in the area.

Councillor Sandra Graham, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, said: "This is a practical step to make North Shields town centre safer and more welcoming for everyone. By placing officers where issues are happening, we can respond more quickly and work closely with local businesses, transport staff and the public to tackle problems before they escalate."
