Luxury wedding venue reveals refurbishment

A NORTH East luxury wedding venue has revealed a significant refurbishment and extension after securing a multimillion-pound funding deal.

Whitworth Hall Hotel, in Spennymoor, County Durham

Newcastle-based hospitality company The Apartment Group first acquired Whitworth Hall in 2020, amid plans to transform it into a boutique hotel. Based close to Spennymoor, the Grade II-listed mansion which sits within its own private deer park dates back to the mid-17th Century and was the ancestral home of the Shafto family.

Now Develop North Plc, the investment company managed by Newcastle's fund management specialists Tier One Capital, is supporting the next phase in the transformation of the County Durham characterful wedding venue. The London Stock Exchange listed company has provided a £2.4m funding package to support refurbishment and extension plans at the country house.
