THE FIT FACTOR

IF YOU ordered a drink knowing it contained nearly 20 teaspoons of sugar - that’s around three days’ worth of your children’s recommended daily sugar allowance and two of an adult's - you would probably not buy it!

Alarmingly, some of our most popular and best-known coffee shops contain just that in their festive drinks list which are also packed with calories.

Let me put that into perspective:

■Four grams of sugar = one teaspoon;

■ Recommended daily allowance for a child aged seven to 10 is 24g, or six teaspoons; for over-11s it is 28g, or seven teaspoons.
