Former workhouse building up for sale

A FORMER workhouse in a Northumberland town has been put up for sale.
The prominent site on the Corbridge Road in Hexham is being marketed by the Landwood Group, with the asking price standing at more than £800,000.
The property, which dates back to 1839, served as housing for the destitute until 1939.
However, it has now stood empty for more than a decade after the workhouse closed, the building was used by the old Hexham Hospital before replacement buildings opened just over the road in 2004.
