UK to build arms factories in response to Russia threat

Defence review unveiled as war rages on the edge of Europe
Ministers are to spend £1.5bn to build at least six ammunition and weapons factories, as they respond to Russia's attack on Ukraine. The plans will form part of a war-ready - or "always on" - pipeline that is able to scale up at short notice.
Making the announcement ahead of a new defence review set to be published tomorrow, defence secretary John Healey said the “hard-fought lessons” of Vladimir Putin’s illegal invasion of Ukraine “show a military is only as strong as the industry that stands behind them”.
