MP sought views for assisted dying vote

PLYMOUTH MP Luke Pollard has voted for changes to the controversial assisted dying bill after seeking the views of hundreds of people in the city.

The Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill, which has already passed its second reading in Parliament, was due to face another “yes-or-no” vote on Friday at the committee stage. However, House of Commons speaker Lindsay Hoyle instead granted more time for debate so MPs only voted on amendments.

Mr Pollard (right) had asked constituents for their views on the controversial bill before the second reading last November and has thanked them for their comments.

After Friday's vote, Kim Leadbeater, the MP behind the legislation, said the bill will be strengthened by fresh protections which introduced further checks on applications for assisted dying and allowing doctors to opt out of involvement.
