Inquest into death of grandad resumes after six years

62-YEAR-OLD DIED AFTER PARAMEDICS WERE DELAYED

AN inquest into the death of a Redcar man who died in 2019 after ambulance delays and subsequent alleged “cover-ups” is to resume six years on.

Peter Coates, a much-loved dad and grandad, sadly passed away on March 14, 2019.

The 62-year-old former Redcar steel worker was in remission from cancer and had COPD.

Mr Coates’ death came after paramedics were twice delayed in attending his address following a power cut which disrupted his oxygen supply.

Mr Coates’ death was one of the cases flagged by ambulance service whistleblowers in 2022 - calling attention to the fact the coroner was not informed about the delays in getting to him and that a paramedic who responded provided two statements, one of which was not at that time shared with the coroner.
