A STROLL through Saltburn's Valley Gardens is enjoyable at any time of year, especially when you bump into a grey wagtail.

This particular individual was mooching through the leaf litter on the path, though is never found far away from water.

Grey wagtails are present all the year round, though many of them spend the summer months on higher ground near fast flowing streams, before dropping down to lower water-based habitats when the weather changes.

These delightful birds certainly don't enjoy cold weather. Their numbers do fall in winter, though they lay up to six eggs during the breeding season and can recover quickly.
