China fighter jet 'intercepts' Phl plane over Scarborough

A Chinese fighter jet "intercepted" a patrol aircraft of the Philippine Coast Guard while it was flying over Scarborough Shoal on Wednesday, August 13 — the same area where China days ago rammed into its own warship while chasing a Philippine vessel.
PCG spokesperson Jay Tarriela said China's J-15 fighter jet came within 500 feet laterally of the patrol plane and at one point flew directly overhead at a height of 200 feet.
It is "the first time this year" that the PCG's patrol flight had this type of midair encounter with a Chinese fighter jet, the PCG spokesperson explained at a press conference on Wednesday.
"A significant safety concern arose when the PCG Caravan aircraft was dangerously intercepted by a People's Republic of China (PRC) J-15 fighter aircraft," Tarriela said in a statement.
