Archival eyes review of zoning ordinance

July 03, 2025

Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival announced his plan on seeking a review of the recently approved revised zoning ordinance.

In an interview, Archival said now that he has officially assumed office as the mayor of Cebu City, he will ask the oversight committee to review the ordinance, following concerns raised by the Carbon vendors against the ordinance.

Based on the provision of the ordinance, after the mayor would sign the measure, there will be a 90-day period before its effectivity. During this time, an oversight committee could review the ordinance, identify areas that need revisions, and suggest amendments, if necessary.

Archival said that if he had objected to the approval of the ordinance during its final reading and deliberation, it would have appeared as though he was not in favor of the ordinance.

He added the ordinance would not have had the chance to undergo a review, if he had objected to it earlier.

He described the current situation as a win-win, as the ordinance can now be reviewed by a committee.

When asked about his comment to the signing of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan and Zoning Ordinance (CLUP) prior to the State of the City Address of former mayor Raymond Garcia on June 30 (Monday), Archival said that he is happy about it.

"So karon naa nay CLUP, for me, nalipay ko nga naa ang CLUP because that is the roadmap or ang mga plano kung unsaon nato paghan-ay ang atong siyudad," he said.
