Ford brings Mustang up to date without losing what makes a muscle car special

AFTER what seems like months and months of driving electric cars, suddenly this beast rolls on to my driveway - the Ford Mustang.

- BY MAGGIE BARRY

This is not the Mach-E SUV with the pony on the front - it is not even the semi-skimmed Mustang with the EcoBoost engine which Ford thought would do so well in Europe.

They discontinued that one in the UK because of low demand.

No, this is the full fat 5.0-litre GT job that looks magnificent and sounds magnificent and is the one which everyone who wanted a Mustang bought.

Why be Hercule Poirot when you can be Steve McQueen bouncing down the streets of San Francisco.

The 2025 version moves the Mustang on but not enough to dismay the purists for whom the Mustang is the epitome of a US muscle car. It still retains those big haunches, the long nose and the lines sweeping back to its powerful rear.
