Speaking from his home in Fife, he said: “I’ve known for a few weeks that he was in trouble over there and I’ve struggled to get my head around what’s going on.
“I’m pretty confused about things and I have not spoken to Ross but I do know he headed over to Ukraine to work with the military around two years ago.”
Ross Snr, 59, said he would “very much like to think” that his son was innocent. “He has court proceedings to face but it doesn’t look great from what the Ukrainians are putting out there,” he added.
