HUGHFEST, the annual music event honouring the late jazz icon Hugh Masekela, returns to Nirox Sculpture Park tomorrow, continuing the celebration of his rich musical legacy.

- ANITA NKONKI

Now in its fourth year at the renowned art and nature venue, and its 12th year as a major fixture on the local cultural calendar, this year’s festival boasts a vibrant, diverse lineup.

Artists set to perform include Shekhinah, The Soul Brothers, Mi Casa, Madala Kunene & Sibusile Xaba, The Brother Moves On, and iComplete.

Masekela’s daughter and festival co-organiser, Pula Twala, says the event remains deeply rooted in the values and artistic identity her father stood for.

“Bending our hearts, minds, and spirits to an outline of Hugh’s fertile creativity and inspiration. The intergenerational conversations onstage and off, connecting with family and friends, and the unique cultural experiences that Nirox offers.”
