Councillor concerned development 'only scratches surface' of housing emergency

- TAYLOR MURRAY

A development of new homes in Braehead is the “kind of investment” the area needs, Councillor Jamie McGuire has said.

The Renfrew North and Braehead elected member has lavished praise on the scheme which will be built from early next year.

The Express told how 57 properties will be constructed at the Row Avenue site.

Sanctuary Scotland, which is behind the project, will create two and three-bedroom homes and one and two-bedroom apartments.

Cllr McGuire says the homes will be a welcome boost for those on a waiting list but insists it must be the start of tackling the nation’s housing emergency.

"I'm absolutely delighted to see plans moving forward for new social homes in Braehead," he told the Express.

"This is exactly the kind of investment our area needs. Far too many people across Renfrewshire are stuck on housing waiting lists, waiting years for a safe and secure place to call home.
