Calls for pedestrian crossing on 'dangerous' road after dad killed as he walked to work

CALLS have been made for a pedestrian crossing to be installed outside HMP Ranby in Retford after a prison employee was fatally struck by a car while crossing the road to work.
The incident occurred just before 8am on Monday, December 1, on Straight Mile and, despite the efforts of members of the public and paramedics, Phil Tetley, a 42-year-old father, died.
Mr Tetley, who lived in Retford with his family, had been working as an electrical tutor at the prison's education department and was walking from a car park to the prison when the crash happened.
One of Mr Tetley’s friends has now called for a pedestrian crossing on Straight Mile.
The petition, titled 'install a pedestrian crossing outside HMP Ranby,' was launched by David Swan, 34, and has been signed more than 2,200 times in one day.
Mr Swan said: "It could have happened to anyone. It's a very dangerous road. I don't know why nothing is being done about it.
"I know the petition isn't going to bring Phil back, but if a crossing is installed it might stop other people from losing their lives. It's something he would have wanted.
