£35k cost of keeping ford shut

COUNCIL SAYS SPENDING WAS WORTH IT OVER CONSEQUENCES OF LEAVING IT OPEN
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE County Council has spent just over £35,000 on Rufford Ford during its emergency closure.
The authority had to put up new signs around the area and is still hiring concrete barriers to stop drivers going through the ford, near Ollerton - although one vehicle managed to smash through them and cause £2,600 damage.
The closure was ordered by Nottinghamshire Police in December 2022. The ford became a YouTube sensation as millions watched videos of drivers trying to cross when water levels were too high.
