The Kingdom of God is among you
Manila Bulletin
|November 13, 2025
After Jesus cleanses the 10 lepers, the Pharisees ask him about the coming of the Kingdom of God.
-
He clarifies with them that it does not come about with just watching out or keeping a close observation of it.
Rather, it comes about when we realize that it is present within us. The Kingdom of God can be ours if we choose or will it.
After answering the Pharisees, Jesus faces his disciples and tells them that time will come when they will long to see the Son of Man, even only for a day.
Their longing will be taken advantage of by those who pretend to know the time but will mislead them.
By using a simile, Jesus explains that his coming will be like a lightning that flashes from one end of the horizon to the other. This is just one of the images that portray how Jesus will come again on the last day.

Jesus compares the days of the Son of Man with the two catastrophic events in Genesis, namely: (1) the days of Noah when the people were carefree, enjoying life without due regard to God, and then the Deluge came; and (2) the days of Lot, when people were so violent and immoral, and then fire and brimstone destroyed their cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.
