Chief started job with trust months after he quit Letby hospital

Hospital boss Tony Chambers resigned in September 2018 from his role as the chief executive of the Countess of Chester Hospital following Lucy Letby's arrest in July 2018. By December, he had already been given a director role at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust, the M.E.N. can exclusively reveal.

It comes as Letby was sentenced to a whole life order at Manchester Crown Court on Monday. She will never be released from jail. The 33-year-old was convicted on Friday of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more during her shifts at the Countess of Chester Hospital between 2015 and 2016.

Another of Letby's former bosses, Alison Kelly, left the Countess of Chester after allegations were made to her about the killer nurse by concerned doctors. She went on to become the interim director of nursing at Salford Royal before becoming the director of nursing for Rochdale - a position she has now been suspended from in the wake of the Letby's conviction. The nursing regulator has also confirmed it is looking into claims against Ms Kelly.
