BUT FREDDIE NOW HAS CHARITY HALF MARATHON IN SIGHTS AFTER BRAIN TUMOUR DIAGNOSIS

- By PAIGE OLDFIELD

A few months ago I was competing at national level and now I can't run at all

A TEENAGER whose brain tumour was mistaken for a headache says he is determined to turn his experience into something positive.

Freddie Meredith, from Altrincham, was a promising young athlete with aspirations of studying in America when he was diagnosed with a rare germ cell tumour in December 2024.

Now undergoing a gruelling course of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, the 17-year-old says he is using his journey to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

"At first after receiving the news was definitely a hard moment," Freddie told the M.E.N. "There were so many questions I wanted to ask but there weren't answers. It was the not knowing what type of tumour it was which was the scariest part."

Freddie had been experiencing blurred and double vision as well as severe headaches before visiting his GP.

His doctor immediately referred him to Wythenshawe Hospital for a CT scan, where he was diagnosed with hydrocephalus - a dangerous build-up of fluid on the brain caused by a tumour blocking normal circulation.
