WAR STORY AND CRIME WRITER TALK AMONG THE CELEBRATIONS
A RARE chance to see well-known parts of Leicester as they were 80 years ago will be part of a week of activities at the city's main library.
Central Library in Bishop Street, Leicester city centre, is celebrating its 120th birthday with a week of free activities for people of all ages.
Events began yesterday, and the library is inviting people to step back in time and experience the library as it might have been when it first opened in 1905, with the help of Edwardian toys, writing implements and archive materials lent by Leicester museums.
The exhibition of Edwardian artefacts will continue throughout the summer, so people can pop in any time when the library is open.
Today, at an invitation-only event, children from Hazel Community Primary School in the St Andrew's area of Leicester will join assistant city mayor Elaine Pantling at the library to cut a birthday cake, with crafts, games and storytelling helping to take the Year 5 class back to 1905.
