DAD TAKES PART IN CHARITY WALK IN MEMORY OF HIS SON

A SURREY dad is walking hundreds of miles in memory of his son who died from a brain tumour, using the challenge to help him face life after loss.

José de Abreu, from Salfords, is on the final leg of Route to Research a 676-mile challenge completed over three months in aid of Brain Tumour Research.

In April 2024, his youngest son, 34-year-old Chevy, died three years after being diagnosed with a high-grade astrocytoma, following treatment with radiotherapy and chemotherapy.

"In the depths of my grief, finding the will to simply leave the house has been a daily battle," said José, a 65-year-old IT worker.

"This challenge has given me a reason. It has forced me back into the world, onto the paths and roads, walking and sometimes running, with each step feeling like a small victory against the sorrow."

The 676-mile challenge reflects the distance between Brain Tumour Research's Centres of Excellence, where scientists are working tirelessly to find a cure.
