We'll party like 1945 to salute a nation's heroes

|May 07, 2025
THE UK will party like it's 1945 when the nation salutes our veterans by marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day.
Four days of celebrations and remembrance will begin on Bank Holiday Monday, May 5. The events aim to reflect the spontaneous scenes of joy that erupted on May 8, 1945, to mark the end of World War II in Europe.
Victory in Europe Day marks the day when the Allies of World War II formally accepted Germany's unconditional surrender of its armed forces.
It wasn't actually the end of World War II however.
The Battle of Odžak, in Bosnia, didn't end until May 25, which was the end of the war in Europe.
Globally, the war ended on August 14, five days after the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Nagasaki.
