Kleinberg pupils gain clearer vision

Pupils at Kleinberg Primary School are set to benefit from an eye screening outreach programme aimed at identifying vision challenges that may be affecting learning and classroom performance.

The initiative was a collaboration between the Fish Hoek Deep South Lions Club, the Rotary Club of Cape of Good Hope, and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), with support from volunteers at the school.

The programme was initiated after volunteer Karin Kratz, (“One boy’s new glasses inspire eye clinic project for Ocean View schools”), who assists with the Children Aloud Reading Programme in Ocean View, raised concerns that undetected eyesight problems were becoming a barrier to literacy and reading fluency among pupils.

She approached Fish Hoek Deep South Lions Club president Aidan Ewers to assist with an intervention at Kleinberg Primary School.
