Celebrations Marking 15 years of Dumfries and Galloway Disability Sport are committee members

- SHARON LIPTROTT

Dumfries and Galloway Disability Sport (DGDS) has marked a proud milestone of 15 years of inclusive sport across the region with a celebration and awards ceremony.

The event, held at The Bridge in Dumfries, brought together athletes, coaches, volunteers, families and supporters from across the region for an afternoon of “reflection and recognition”.

It was a chance to honour the achievements of individuals and groups who have contributed to the continued success and growth of disability sport in the region.

And thanks go to photographer Les Snowdon who donated his time and experience to capture the special event on camera for DGDS.

DGDS chairperson, Dave Denholm, said: “Reaching our 15th anniversary and hosting our first-ever awards event was a truly special occasion.

“It was wonderful to come together as a community and celebrate the achievements of so many inspiring individuals and teams who represent the very best of sport in Dumfries and Galloway.”

Since 2010, the team behind DGDS have undoubtedly taken great strides in promoting equal opportunities for people with physical, sensory, and learning disabilities to participate in and enjoy sport at every level.

A strong network of inclusive clubs, community partnerships and athlete development pathways have been established which have helped countless participants discover the benefits of physical activity, competition, and social connection.
