Trophy elimination for Gladiators and Nailers
Derby Telegraph
|September 22, 2025
MATLOCK Town and Belper Town have both been knocked out of the Isuzu FA Trophy.
-
The Gladiators suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Basford United in their second qualifying round tie.
They fell behind to Jack Goodman's ninth-minute opener but former Derby County forward Conor Washington equalised for Matlock 10 minutes later, sending a volley into the roof of the net after the visitors had cleared a header off the line.
But Basford were back in front in the 62nd minute when Jordan Hallam found the back of the net with a neat finish.
Matlock couldn't find a way back in an entertaining encounter and it's Basford who progress.
In the same round, Belper let a two-goal lead slip as they fell to a 3-2 away defeat against Rugby Town.
Jonathan Wafula nodded the Nailers ahead in the 14th minute and it was 2-0 at the break after Jacob Fenton struck in the 31st minute with another header.
