KATE Garraway clutched husband Derek Draper’s hand “throughout the last long hours” as he lost a near four-year battle against Covid. 

Announcing his death on Instagram, the Good Morning Britain star, 56, said she was still holding him “when he passed”.

She added: “Rest gently and peacefully Derek, my love, I was so lucky to have you in my life.’’

The former Labour Party lobbyist, also 56, was admitted to intensive care in 2020 and never fully recovered after organ damage left him needing 24/7 care.
