DONALD Trump may have taken his foot off the pedal when it comes to the Iran War, but recent hostilities in the Middle East have sent the costs of fuel soaring.

And the prices or both petrol and diesel are likely to stay high for some time. Here JAMES MOORE reveals top tips on how to keep a lid on how much you're spending at the filling station...

App-y days: Want to find the cheapest petrol near you? Sites including PetrolPrices and my-RAC, can help. They monitor the up-to-date prices on thousands of forecourts nationwide.

Savings in store: At supermarket filling stations, prices are often up to 5p per litre cheaper. Avoid motorway service stations, which tend to charge the highest rates.

Weight to go: Extra weight in your vehicle means you use more fuel. Before you set off see what you can take out, like that sports equipment or tools.
