Wharton's England call a dream come true after meteoric rise
THE last time England were in the Euros, Adam Wharton was cheering them on from a tent in Blackburn.
Fast forward 36 months and Wharton’s rise to stardom has been so rapid, he’s now pitched up with the Three Lions squad itself.
It’s safe to assume that back in 2021 Wharton didn’t expect to be where he is now, as he watched England’s agonising defeat to Italy on penalties in the Euros final at Wembley.
But no matter how far Wharton has come since then, the Crystal Palace midfielder is so laid-back it’s difficult to work out if the reality of it all has hit him yet. He said: “My first England memory would probably be the 2010 World Cup – England versus Germany. That’s the earliest I can remember.
“The collared shirt, the red numbers on the front. Then for the Euros, for the final, I was actually staying in digs at Blackburn. There is a hotel/bar place around the corner. They had a tent up and a few were in there cheering the lads on.
