Bowie fluffed his lines after Gray did so with team lines... he’s legend but plenty of credit vanished with Cup hopes

- TAM McMANUS

DAVID GRAY has delivered some intoxicating moments for the Hibs fans in his spell in charge.

But even though I was four pints deep in the hospitality suite at East End Park, I had to check I wasn't drunk and having blurry vision when I got handed a team-sheet before the Scottish Cup nightmare.

The Hibs manager had an awful lot of credit in the bank with the club's supporters, given what he has given them as a player and a boss. A legend.

However, that defeat to Dunfermline has cashed plenty of it in. Quite simply, the exit was on him in the eyes of many of the faithful and I can't argue with those who have those feelings in all honesty.

Gray got it wrong, simple as that. I know things are easy to say in hindsight after the game but this was being said before the game and even more so afterwards.

Dunfermline would have received a big boost when they saw the team, just as I felt like putting down my pint and necking a swift half.

Put it this way, I spoke to Neil Lennon following the game and he said as much.

The lift the Pars got when they saw Hibs were ‘resting’ two or three players was huge. That was neither the time nor the place. Let's face it, Hibs’ season was onthe line going to Fife with their chances of silverware and success left squarely on the Scottish Cup.
