Killing of OAPs 'not avoidable'

THE deaths of two pensioners following an attack by a mentally ill man were unavoidable, a fatal accident inquiry has ruled.

Former SAS soldier Martyn Smith, 73, died after he was brutally attacked by Oskars Rancevs, 32, at a block of flats in Oban's Dunollie in October 2018.

Martyn's 75-year-old neighbour John White also died, having suffered a heart attack after witnessing the assault.

John had dialled 999 after being kicked in the stomach by Rancevs, a former Latvian reality TV dance star.
