A MUM has celebrated a new year she feared she would never see after the Daily Record backed her fight to save her life.

- BY GEMMA RYDER

Rachael Nixon, from Kirkcaldy, was diagnosed with myelofibrosis in October 2024 after suffering from months of fatigue, dizzy spells, and unexplained weight loss.

The rare and aggressive bone marrow cancer disrupts the body's production of blood cells and 40-year-old children’s nurse Rachael was told she may have just two to three years to live.

As a single parent to two-year-old daughter Daisy, the stakes couldn't have been higher.

But hope arrived in an unexpected form when thousands of people signed up to the blood stem-cell donor register after our story on her battle was published at Christmas in 2024.

A donor match was found in February last year and by June, Rachael had the stem cel transplant she needed to survive.

Rachael told the Record: “I thought I would be spending my 1st Christmas with my little girl and that I wouldn't see my her grow up, but here I am, ready to start a new year.
