Wrexham’s dramatic rise isn't just down to owners’ spending

HOLLYWOOD DUO HAVEN'T JUST SPLASHED CASH, THEY'VE BUILT A GLOBAL BRAND
THEY say money can't buy success, but try telling that to opposition fans on social media who sneer at Wrexham's eight-game unbeaten Championship run, seeing it as proof that glory is just a Hollywood chequebook away.
Admittedly, Saturday's dramatic 1-1 draw against Blackburn at the Racecourse Ground had all the hallmarks of a big-budget blockbuster. Max Cleworth struck deep in stoppage time to snatch a point and lift the Red Dragons up to ninth in the table, keeping their hopes of a playoff push very much alive.
However, if you think Wrexham's rise under A-list co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac has been straightforward, then it's worth rewinding exactly six years ago when the club hit rock bottom.
On December 1, 2019, Wrexham were dead last in the National League after a crushing 2-1 defeat at Ebbsfleet, five points adrift of safety at around the season's halfway mark.
It was as low as the club had ever sunk and relegation to the National League North loomed like a trapdoor beneath them.
When the Covid pandemic ended the season prematurely a few months later in March 2020, Wrexham had clawed themselves just high enough to dodge the drop via points-per-game.
