Police to patrol 'overwhelmed' beach this Bank Holiday weekend
Daily Post
|August 22, 2025
POLICE will be patrolling one of Wales’ most popular beaches over the Bank Holiday weekend.
It follows a rise in unruly and illicit behaviour at Traeth Llanddwyn near the village of Newborough, Anglesey.
North Wales Police officers will be working alongside wardens from Natural Resources Wales (NRW) to clamp down on illegal fires, barbecues and wild camping. Offenders are being warned they could face fines.
With another large influx of visitors expected this weekend, site manager NRW wants to avoid a repeat of what happened last Saturday. Wardens were forced to lock down the beach and adjacent forest after reportedly becoming “overwhelmed” by groups of visitors erecting tents and lighting fires.
The area, part of Newborough national nature reserve, has been popularised on social media.
It’s also gained fame after featuring in HBO’s House of the Dragon series.
Dylan Williams, NRW’s operations manager for North West Wales, said Anglesey Council wardens will also be patrolling the village and nearby roads to tackle illegal parking.
