PARK-AND-RIDE PROPOSALS SET TO EASE GRIDLOCK THROUGH VILLAGE

- By ANDREW FORGRAVE Countryside and Tourism Editor

NEW measures to resolve traffic gridlock in a seaside village are to be trialled this summer.

Satellite car parks will be set up and a park-and-ride scheme will be assessed to see if visitors can be ferried to one of the most popular beaches in North Wales.

The plans were unveiled just hours after fed-up residents in Newborough, Anglesey, announced plans for a disruptive protest. Villagers were yesterday due to stage a "moving blockade" on the only road leading to Traeth Llanddwyn.

Angry villagers say the protest will not be the last. It was arranged after the community lost patience waiting for promised solutions. But Natural Resources Wales (NRW), which manages the beach car park, said a variety of measures are now in the pipeline.

The environment body said it understands local frustrations but pointed out that over-tourism pressures are being felt right across North West Wales.

With Anglesey Council, NRW has already introduced traffic management during peak times to help manage congestion that often brings the village to a standstill.
