OASIS played at Newcastle Arena on September 17, 1997 - but the real rock ‘n’ roll was across town at St James’ Park.

In the club's first ever Champions League tie, Toon striker Faustino Asprilla (right) scored three goals - two from stunning headers — in the first 49 minutes against mighty Barcelona.

The star-studded Spanish champions simply could not cope with the pace of the Colombian and Keith Gillespie. Or the noise inside the stadium roaring on Kenny Dalglish's players.
