Lando says poor decisions have cost him lead in F1 title race

- BY DANIEL MOXON

LANDO NORRIS admitted “trying to be a hero” has cost him in his Formula One title chase.

The Brit is nine points behind teammate Oscar Piastri as the sport returns following a four-week break.

But he knows he could have been in the driving seat were it not for costly mistakes in China and Canada earlier this year.

“Could I have, at times, made maybe better decisions? I think so,” Norris said in Zandvoort.

“The main one was China Sprint qualifying - I think my lap was good enough for pole until the final hairpin where I locked up.

“If I'd had that thought probably just before braking, ‘It's a long season, don't try to be a hero, then I would have finished it. I lost eight points there”.

He also threw away more points by crashing into the back of Piastri while trying to overtake in Montreal (below).
